How to Find the Right Drug Rehab Center

Wondering how to find the right drug rehab center? Learn what questions to ask and what to look for.

If you have an addiction problem and need help, you will need to know how to choose the right drug rehab facility. First off, it is best if you do not try to stop using drugs or alcohol on your own because you may experience life-threatening complications from the withdrawal process. The safest and most effective way to recover from a drug addiction is to receive the proper treatment at a drug rehab center. If you are struggling with financial lack and do not have health insurance, there are options where you may be able to get public assistance to enter the rehab. Some options for those of you who are financially strapped are:

If you are financially stable and have insurance that covers treatment you are set to choose a treatment center. There are questions to ask a drug rehab center to understand what the center has to offer you and what to expect once you are there. Some of these questions include:

Other questions to ask a drug rehab center include: Is the center gender specific or are there both men and women present? Some drug treatment centers are just for men or women, or for pregnant women, adolescents and young adults. There are also State facilities for addicts who are sent for treatment from a drug court. Whatever type of rehab center you decide to attend, you should realize that you will need time to heal and change your addictive behaviors. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) recommends a minimum treatment time of ninety days for the initial phase of recovery to take hold. There are many thoughts and behaviors that you may have to change to live a sober, drug-free life. The more time you allow yourself in a structured environment conducive to that change, the more indoctrinated you will be to it. You owe it to yourself to be committed to the recovery programs and allow yourself the time you need to process the information and incorporate it into your thinking and behavior.

Other questions to ask a rehab center are: What are the qualifications of the staff and are they friendly, compassionate and caring? Do they honor the privacy of the patient, and treat the patient with integrity? What are the living conditions like, and is the center kept clean and safe? If you are the parent of a teen who is going into rehab, you will want to know that you are placing your child in the hands of State licensed medical professionals who will give your child the best care available. How to choose the right drug facility is all about asking the right questions. Don’t be afraid to ask any of these questions to rehab staff you are interviewing –  you or your child’s life depends on it.
