Big big Big improvement at Thresholds Housing Advocacy!! I just want to take my hat off to Case Managers Alison Fichera and Norma. Who represented and helped me in my search for decent housing. Case Manager Alison Fichera finalized a discrimination situation with a major Real Estate Agency here in Chicago. Alison set precedent in a discriminatory situation advocating change for people with Mental Illness and Disabilities and the Disabled! Alison presented our case against discrimination against the Disabled and the Mentally Ill! She came out swinging! The Real Estate Agency is now going to make changes because Alison put up a good fight against discrimination in the housing market for the Mentally Ill and the Disabled. Especially for Thresholds members! I've been compensated and given Carte Blanc at any of their properties! All of this because of Alison's persistent for change in housing and resistance against discriminatory practices in the housing market. I have never experienced such compassion and devotion for the Mentally Ill and the Disabled. EVER! So, kudos to you Alison for going way beyond the call of duty! juan I

UPDATE: I have been attending Group Meetings and One on One Therapy at Thresholds Dincin Center. 4101 N. Ravenswood. And I have been a member of Thresholds for ten years. My experience there has been "a mixed bag." The group facilitators are good for the most part. Though you have some new ones that are not genuine. Some show signs of that they are only there because it's a job. And sometimes show signs that they are distressed. The Group sessions are not consistent. So you can find yourself sitting around for hours waiting for the next group to take place. Or you can socialize. The problem with that is that there different degrees of Mental Illness there. There have been incidences of violence and violent out burst behaviour. I have recovered from Mental Illness. So at times it's hard to socialize with other members who are not on the same level as I. And that causes problems. A long time staff member Group Facilitator/ Counselour of ten years was let go. Carl Hippensteel was a great Group Facilitator and Counselour. Carl shared his experience in the Mental Health and Illness profession and was very professional, personal and just a very well liked guy by clients (members). We were told that he would not be returning. Carl was not given the chance to speak with us about his departure. There has been verbal testimony that Carl has saved and improved many lives. We all are very upset and feel the lost. Many got upset and cried. I circulated a letter to be signed by members. On how we feel and demanded an explanation. The signed letter was given to the administration, indicating how lost the members feel, without Carl. It's been a week now and they refuse to respond. If you suffer from Mental Illness than Thresholds is a good place to go. Though I do not recommend the Dincin Center at Thresholds Ravenswood location. Instead try Thresholds Empowerment Center located at Balmoral and Broadway. Just south off the Red Line BrynMar stop. Smaller groups. No sitting around or inconsistent groups meetings. No violence or verbal violent outburst there. Breakfast and lunch served with a five minutes breaks between groups, and you can even do your laundry for free at the site while you are attending groups. I highly recommend the Thresholds Empowerment Center! Or the Freedom Center located at 2045 W. grand. Lunch and breakfast served. And you can do laundry there for free while you attend group meetings as well.

I mean yeah the services is good and they do it quick. But I went about a week ago and this is how my arm looks like when they took my blood out I felt that person did know what they were doing. I left with my arm hurting when I fold my arm. Until now it hurts and looks just like that. My advise if you guys don't mind taking is to hire people who really know how to do their job. Or at least make sure their properly trained for it.

The staff is great. Wait times... not so much. But, it's your health care for little to no cost. How can you complain. 4 stars for wait times. Totally understandable though.

reggie aust, 2 years ago

It’s a little bit of a wait but it’s free and the staff is decent.

Every day before 4:30 P.M they do the tests there . It took 20 minutes for results and overall It just took me 30 minutes there . Staffs were friendly . But piece of advice try to go there after 3 P.M .

I don't want to complain much because I don't have insurance and this is a free service. However, I am going to give 3 stars because of the SUPER long wait to see the RN (even after getting there before they opened), and the annoyingly loud trash TV (Jerry Springer) that plays in the waiting room. Street parking cost about $8 for the 4 hours I was there. Staff is very friendly though, and the RN made my visit as comfortable as possible.

Thresholds is one of the most reputable mental health agencies in the country. They provide comprehensive, multifaceted, and holistic services designed for intermediate and long-term rehabilitation and recovery. They have the most competent and empathetic clinical staff who are proficient in conducting assessments and evaluation. I especially have gratitude for the outreach teams, including ACT and CST. I have been a loyal member of Thresholds since I was a young adult and have first-hand knowledge of the transformative work they do in the community. Thanks for reading. Jesse A. Bella
