I was here for detox from alcohol. Dorthy was very helpful and took care of everything before I got there. She greeted me at the door when I arrived and was then taken care of by very nice folks. I was here for 28 days and my experience was awakening. Melissa and James treated me like family and are the best nurses I met. Duane is really fun and he motivates you to stay. Thank you Harbor Oaks!

I was hospitalized here recently for depression. I was skeptical about going here due to the reviews, and not to mention the 2 hour drive to get there but staff at the emergency room reassured us I would be taken care of. Well I went and I am glad did. I am doing much better, and I have good support system that Harbor Oaks set me up with outside the hospital. I have never been hospitalized before and they made me feel safe. For all its worth, ignore the reviews.

Our child has Autism and pretty much we were out of options in state to help us. Harbor Oaks has a program for kids with autism to go get treatment. He was there for about 30 days, and the results were amazing.

Thank you Harbor Oaks for helping my daughter. She was on the kids unit, which is very beautiful. The doctor was very knowledgeable and the staff was caring.

Older building, but nice friendly staff. The doc actually took me off medication and now I take one. I feel like a whole new person!

This is one the second mental facility I was at. The first was havenwyck and compared to that place this must as well have been a 5 Star hotel. Some of the nurses definitely need to work on their attitudes, but it isn’t the worst place. When I was cold I was allowed extra blankets. I got to shower in my own room, I even went outside one time. The doctors could use some work. One of the nurses I wish I remembered her name, was one of the most helpful people I have EVER met in a mental facility. I will never forget her kindness. The female doctor was better than the male. Because I was so drugged up from HavenWyck they allowed me an earlier bedtime, and she even allowed me to lower the incredibly high dosage that I was on when she understood that it wasn’t needed. The food however was AWFUL it was a joke to call it “food” it was in a soggy styrofoam container and you weren’t allowed to choose where you sat to eat. Unlike Havenwyck I have no nightmares of being there, when I asked the times and the dates they answered, we had rec time and we got to do some pretty cool crafts if I’m being honest. One more mini complaint that I have is the fact they woke you up at 3 am to check your vitals. Woke everyone in the room up. However, there are a LOT more positives than negatives from this facility. I was very satisfied now looking back now that I’m not a zombie. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it but I wouldn’t diss it either.

The partial program worked out good for my daughter instead of being admitted. A bonus was the free transportation they gave!

My son (13) received the proper care he finally deserved. He has been hospitalized at other facilities, but seemed worse after. Thankfully I followed the recommendation from our emergency dept. to go to Harbour Oaks. Only downfall, it is a little far but again worth it.

Normally I do not post "google" reviews unless of course they are negative, but this one is different. My child was on the autism unit for almost two months, and I must say that the staff is amazing. Thank you Harbor Oaks.

As a former patient, I would recommend this place to others for heir children. Although it has been a while, the staff that was there at the time, were very friendly and helpful. If your child takes it serious, thy will enjoy their time, learn a lot about themselves and will meet people to remind them that they are not alone; regardless of why you are there. The food is GREAT btw too lol I only rated hem 4 stars just because being that this hospital is the only one I've been too, I can't compare to any others- so I wouldn't know if it is a 5 star quality or not.

5 stars for real. Honesty, we know what he's got because we're the ones that gave it to him...

You get what YOU put in, I thought it was informing on my addiction. The staff was great. But the nursing staff was over worked, I was almost gave the wrong meds twice. DJ

My daughter was admitted here a month ago with thoughts of suicide so severe that she asked for help. We had no idea about any of her depression and how terrible it had been for her. Harbor Oaks was really a great start to my daughter getting the help she needed. I was able to speak to my daughter whenever I wanted to and I called the staff every day even at 4:30 in the morning. Everyone that I talked to on the phone or in person was extremely nice and compassionate. I asked my daughter daily if the staff treated her well and with dignity. She always said YES. She had a couple staff members that she was really fond of. My daughter's case worker was a nice young man. He helped provide an ongoing extensive outpatient treatment plan for my daughter. My daughter has a long road ahead, but she is so much better than she was before. I had never seen the inside of a mental hospital before. It is not some place you want to send your child.. However, my child was SAFE there. Harbor Oaks kept her safe. I could not have done that at home in her mental state. My daughter stayed for 8 days. I hope she will never have to be institutionalized again but if she is, I would trust Harbor Oaks with her care.

This place changed my life. It gave me just what I needed to start down the path to recovery. They're a bit understaffed, and I would have appreciated more one-on-one therapy, but those problems weren't enough to ruin my stay.

Christina Hunt, 2 years ago

I'm a previous employee and I just want people to know that Mental Health is like the step child in healthcare, insurance companies dictate the number of days clients can receive treatment and will shorten the stay abruptly if clients are not placed on medication and of they don't show a need for medication according to their charting. Very small amounts of money are available in the Mental Health field, it's just not a federal or state priority. Don't even get me started on rehab from drug or alcohol addictions, insurance companies often only pay for withdraw which doesn't leave much time for therapy after withdraw side effects decrease. The staff are understaffed and underpaid because the state doesn't mandate more staff. All facilities I've been at in mental health are run in a similar manner.
