The Guidance Center was established in 1937 as the Atchison Child Guidance Clinic and has since grown considerably, combining with Jefferson County in 1974 and Leavenworth County in 1964. It now has offices in Leavenworth, Atchison, and Oskaloosa, with its headquarters located in Leavenworth County. In addition to providing home and community-based mental health treatments, including psychiatry, the facility is the region's Certified mental Health Clinic and a community-based organization. For those who cannot afford care, a sliding price plan is available.
