Its one of the best Methadone Programs in the state!

Ronnie James, 2 years ago

Since 1985, I have been a patient at 3 methadone programs, and Morris County Aftercare is without question the absolute best. Since I first became a patient at MC Aftercare several years ago, I can honestly say that every single staff member I’ve ever met was professional, personable, empathic, knowledgeable and caring. I have always been treated with the utmost respect, even when I always didn’t do my best. And during those times that I wasn’t doing my best, my counselor helped me realize my potential and put me in touch with resources that I had no idea existed. As addicts, I know we sometimes don’t come from happy homes, but walking into MC Aftercare is like walking into a happy, supportive home. Since my very first day, the doctors, nurses, counselors and support staff all made me feel immediately welcomed, and I continue to be impressed by how accessible, friendly and compassionate everyone is, including the executive director (who is often unreachable at OTHER programs). Even though I’ve been an MC Aftercare client for several years, I haven’t paid one cent for my treatment because I qualified for funding through a program called SAPT which, from what I have read, is limited to a certain number of patients each year. Not everyone qualifies for funding, but the program does accept Medicaid. And even if I didn’t qualify for funding, this program would have cost me only $70 a week, which is FAR LESS than I was spending EVERY DAY when I was using drugs. MC Aftercare is different from the other programs I have attended in that the staff REALLY do care about patients. They don’t just meet with you and ask you how you’re doing because they are REQUIRED to do that as part of their jobs. They do it because they REALLY DO CARE and because they recognize your worth as a human being and don’t want to see you overdose. Indeed, they take the time to get to know you and to learn about you so together, you can develop a comprehensive, reasonable treatment plan. And, while the staff understands that relapse is often part of the recovery process, they remain supportive and helpful without becoming enablers. You just have to show that you are REALLY trying and that you are succeeding more often than not, and your counselor will work with you and get you into their Intensive Outpatient Program, which helped me learn about things that I was doing that weren’t conducive to my recovery. If you’re like me, you’ve been in and out of detox and recovery programs many times, and you’ve seen a lot of bureaucracy and adherence to 12-step programs that in my opinion are outdated and unrealistic. You will see none of that bureaucratic and small-minded pettiness at Morris County Aftercare. The focus is on the patient and his or her recovery, not on adherence to a 12-step program from the 1950s that, in my opinion, doesn’t give enough credence to the biological component of addiction. In sum, Morris County Aftercare receives my highest recommendation. I have spoken with many other patients who, like me, have been on other programs, and we all agree that Morris County Aftercare is much better than other programs we have attended. The focus is on the patient and his or her recovery, and getting them the help, they need. And even though there are probably hundreds of patients on this program, it seems as if the entire staff at MC Aftercare strives to know each-and-every patient and cares about their recovery. If you’re ready to take control of your life, don’t try to do it alone, especially when the pros at MC Aftercare would welcome you with open arms—exactly the way they welcomed me!
