From the initial phone call with the treatment coordinator, Keith, I knew I found the right fit for me. I was immediately embraced with open arms and warmth from the staff at Awakenings and to all the woman in residence. Being that it is an all woman’s facility which provides one on one counseling, group sessions, meditative activities (such as yoga, beach walks and aerobic activities at the gym), cognitive behavioral therapy this is only the beginning of the many facets this “home” provides. The self knowledge, confidence and courage I now feel is amazing! I want to extend a huge thank you to the medical staff, the technicians, the counselors, the cook, housekeeper and directors...they all had an integral part in the recovery process. And I will forever be grateful and for this place and all it has to offer!

I am very thankful for Tabatha and all the staff. I was very lucky to find treatment. I’m still sober and in recovery because of my beginning with Awakenings by the Sea. Jamie E

Awakenings is in all sincerity a place of hope and healing. From the person I spoke with on that difficult initial phone call, to my warm welcome by the admissions coordinator I felt safe, loved and cared for. The staff are all amazing from the techs to the nurses to the cooks to the housekeeper. All so willing to help with anything you need. I can’t say enough about the counselors as each of them are so special and helped me in so many ways. I went there very broken and left there feeling whole again. If you are struggling, you will be welcomed here with open arms. I have been to other treatment centers and this one offers more. You get comprehensive care along with workshops to assist in healthy communication, finding the core issues that may lead to relapse and learning to find your self again. They teach mindful behaviors in the form of yoga and beach walks. I can’t say enough. I love this place but will only come back to visit these amazing people.

If I could give a million starts, I would. Please call this facility if you are in need of a serious life change. This was the best decision I could have made for myself. I was there for 35 days and would recommend this facility to anyone that is in serious need of chemical dependency help. With that being said, If you go in to this rehab with a poor attitude and aren't willing to truly figure out your demons - you might as well stay away and continue using. You have to do the work, you have to be willing to dig deep and get uncomfortable - you aren't gong to magically change in 30 days. I promise you that if you put in the effort and really use the tools that this program teaches you, to the best of your ability - it will do wonders for your life. They offer DBT, REP, EMDR and the staff here are actually on your side. They want you to excel. I wish I would have discovered this place sooner. Then I wouldn't have missed out on so much of my life. Thank you Awakenings for helping me when I was so lost. I have made amazing friends and truly owe my life to you.

I have been to other treatment centers in oregon and hands down this has been the most influential program I've experienced. I am extremely grateful to have found this place. It has helped me work through the most difficult aspects of my being. The staff here is amazing. Most of all the connections you will make with the other women are priceless. I will never forget this place and have a very hopeful future. Any women struggling with substance abuse I would recommend you give awakenings a call. They will give you the tools you need to recover. A life worth living.

Such a wonderful place with loving, caring staff! They gave me such a refreshing outlook for the life I have yet to live and amazing tools & coping tools. They take you through workshops and work on the emotional side as well as the chemical dependency! My first and hopefully my last treatment center, I’m very thankful Awakenings was it. Dr. Williams and Serena and all of the counselors/nurses Don, Debbie and Karol are all very educated and wonderful. -Mariah

When I got to Awakenings I was terrified. I was afraid of the world, sobriety, and of myself. I had attempted suicide in my addiction and had had to start from the ground up several times. I hit bottom and though my material resources still existed, I was mentally, emotionally, and spiritually bankrupt and didn't know how to rebuild yet again. The facility recommended to me was a gender specific program out of state and thank god it was full when I called to admit. Through an act of providence Awakenings by the sea was suggested to me, and before I knew it I had a bed! Keith was genuinely kind and always available to answer any question or concern during the process, which only took a couple of hours. A couple of weeks into my treatment episode I fell into a very dark depression. I was diagnosed with bipolar depression years before admitting, and had thought it was well under control. I had been self medicating and my prescribed medications were not as effective as I had thought. Dr. Williams and the clinical team recognised this and made sure I had direct access to my psychiatric provider, and even the emergency room when I needed help and couldn't be seen by my nurse. Two weeks later, about the time of my initial completion date, I started to come out of the fog. My counselor offered a continued stay and for that I am truly grateful. About a week later I found that my material resources- my job, my home- all I had to go back to, all that I had self sufficiently provided, was gone. I am so grateful that this happened! If left to my own illusion of self will I would have gone back to my old life and surely would have relapsed within the first week! Cynthia and Tabatha worked with me every step of the way, coordinating, networking, and planning aftercare, job opportunities, and housing so that my needs were met and I could focus on working a program of recovery. I was given grace, and have been shown how to offer the same to myself in kind. So you see, I had to rebuild yet again- but I was given each tool I needed to do so! Dietary needs are not well accommodated at Awakenings. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free diets are not planned for, and I have witnessed allergies being ignored. Clinical staff is multidimensional and I had the pleasure of interacting one on one with each of them, utilizing each individual's unique strengths. Tabatha is sharp, open, and passionate. Serenna is wise, gentle, patient, and real. Alison is supportive. She reassured me more than once. The small caseloads, intimate setting, and workshop weeks provide a great environment for healing and discovery. I am no longer afraid of sobriety, in fact I crave it. Awakenings has shown me that I do matter, and that I am worthy of love. Because of this place I am in love with myself, and my heart truly is in recovery!

I had my mother call Awakenings by the sea. She had to get me on the phone it was the scariest phone call I ever took but it was made easier by the man on the other end of the line. I was treated with professionalism, kindness, and respect despite him not knowing me or knowing my situation. I would come to find out his name is Keith, he has his own story and is in recovery also. Because of him I was at Awakenings by the sea within 3 days. Nicole the night tech was so kind, compassionate, and very efficient at her job. She continued these same qualities through out my 90 day treatment stay. I hope and pray that one day she is hired as a counselor at Awakenings. I look forward to one day being able to contact her when the policy allows us to because she is made such a difference in my recovery. The grave tech Eva was on the straight and narrow but her consistency was so appreciated. She truly cared and wanted to help. I saw through her tough exterior right away. She truly loves what she does. Awakenings lost a piece of their family when she moved on to other things. She's my "Boo". Cynthia did my on-site intake and planning. She was so knowledgeable, compassionate, caring, efficient, and real. I could always look to her to not sugar coat it and hold me accountable. I really needed this to help me in my recovery. She rocks at discharge planning and is the best driver that drives the vans. She is going to make a wonderful counselor. Shannon the day Tech needs a lot of training. She needs to utilize email and the tools provided to her. The client should never know more than what she does. She needs to stop making excuses take accountability for herself. Her faults should not be accommodated by her boss. I feel like I could come in there and teach her how to do her job. Leona The weekend tech needs training on how to treat the clients at Awakenings. Not everything that happens in the house is about her. The clients don't want to be treated like kindergarteners they're not kindergarteners. We are taught accountability at Awakenings and on the weekends we're not able to be accountable for anything because she follows us around constantly. Tabatha was my counselor she is very good at her job. I do wish I would have gotten more one on one time with her but her insight is great. The time spent with her was quality time and she has been beneficial to my recovery. The REP class she teaches taught me so much about myself and tools I get to take with me and utilize and my recovery so I recognize triggers and I can stop those triggers from putting me into a relapse. She taught me many things that I did not realize about myself and things that I need to do with in my life to keep me sober. She is not perfect she admits it. When the director took leave it seemed that she got a God complex. It seems after the director left that the reigns really tightened where things were a little bit looser I don't know if this was implemented before the director left or what but it really put a lot of strain on the clients. The director Serenna was truly amazing. She helped me with my PTSD that was caused by my trauma treating me by doing EMDR. She listened when I needed her to listen. She advocated for me when I needed advocating for. She is such a joy and such a wonderful, strong woman I will never forget how she has helped me in my recovery. I believe that if Awakenings ever loses her it will be a great loss. Teresa D needs to work on addressing the women in the house as ladies or by name instead of them or they. Yes we may be addicts but we are still human beings and like to be treated as such. It would also be beneficial to the the women in the house if she smiled more often and interacted with the ladies in the house. Special diets should be addressed one on one and the cook should sit down wirh the client to better understand the diet. Dr. Schwartz is an ass plain and simple. Dr. Williams and the rest of the medical staff rock as does Deb the housekeeper. I could go on but I'm running out of characters. Overall this is a great place.

I would recommend ABTS to any woman struggling with addiction/alcoholism. Being in an all female facility was vital to my recovery and one of the many reasons why Awakenings is so special. Everything I needed from a medical detox, a schedule that includes yoga and the gym, and an exit plan to help me succeed out there in the real world was provided. And last but not least the staff were absolutely amazing. This place saved my life, more than once!

Awakenings by the Sea is an amazing place to heal. The staff is kind, loving and skillful in the needs of an addict or alcoholic. The food prepared is healthy and nourishing. The most powerful experience was "The Addiction Letter" read by our director Serenna! It was life changing and I can't thank her enough for getting in my head and saving my life!!! I will cherish my time there at the yellow house as it has changed my life! Grateful forever to be clean and sober! Kat

This place is great! I was a patient there back in February, 2013. To this day I am still clean and sober, and feeling confident I can maintain. The tools and knowledge I gained from Awakenings has been immeasurably instrumental to the success in sobriety I now have. The program is great, providing a healthy balance between academia, treatment, and recreation. The location is fantastic, both inside the facility and of course on the Oregon Coast. The faculty are helpful, knowledgeable, and have been through much of what we all have. I learned so much there, and really got the help I needed at the time. More importantly, I was educated and elevated in body and mind, to overcome my addictions.
