The Top 5 Reasons to Get Sober from Drugs and Alcohol

#1 You Should Get Sober for Yourself

There is no one more important in this life to you than yourself. You have to be your own greatest cheerleader and your own greatest advocate. You have to live in your body and experience all of the consequences of your actions.

Getting sober helps you in so many ways. It helps you mentally, emotionally, medically, spiritually, financially, professionally, and socially. There is no greater gift that you can give yourself than the gift of sobriety.

Many times, addiction makes it seem like things will not get better for you, that they can’t get better for you.

Once you overcome your addiction, you will see that nothing can be further from the truth. The only way that you’ll be able to know for yourself, however, is to get sober.

#2 You Should Get Sober so that You Can Live the Life You Deserve

Many addiction sufferers feel that they are undeserving. They believe that they do not deserve to live a good life. In many cases, their feelings are an underlying cause of and trigger for addiction. It is also common for addiction and the actions done in its pursuit cause these feelings.

Whatever the reason why you believe that you’re undeserving, it is not true. You don’t just deserve a good life, you deserve a great life. You deserve to live a life of happiness, contentment, and security. However, you will never be able to live the life you deserve until you get sober.

Addiction puts you into negative  situations with negative people that take away from your life. You don’t deserve to be taken from. You deserve to be given to. You deserve to move forward in life, not to be continuously dragged backwards.

Getting sober will help you get your life back on track. There is not a single goal that getting sober will not help you achieve. Getting sober will allow you to push your life forward.

#3 You Should Get Sober to Become the Person You Were Meant to Be

Addiction turns you into someone that you don’t even recognize. You find yourself making decisions and taking actions that you never would have ever imagined before you fell victim to this terrible disease.

Luckily, you still have time to become the person you were meant to be. However, you are going to have to overcome your addiction in order to do so. Getting control of your addiction will not only prevent any more negative consequences from ruining your life, but it will also give you the skills and confidence you need to become who you truly are.

When you achieve sobriety, you are able to reclaim yourself and your life. You can rebuild your relationships and reignite your career. You are able to pursue your hobbies and interests, or even continue your education. You can take back everything that your addiction took from you, and then grow even more.

#4 You Should Get Sober for Family Reasons

No one is impacted more from an addiction than the friends and family of the addiction sufferer. Addiction can ruin relationships and cause lasting harm to the people who care the most about you.

Many believe that these relationships have been so damaged that they cannot be healed, but that is the complete opposite of what is true. Most family members would gladly welcome back their loved one after the get sober.

Much like getting sober will positively impact you in many ways, it will also positively impact your family in many ways. In addition to all of the emotional, financial, and responsibility-sharing benefits your family will experience, they will get to enjoy more time with a happier, healthier, and more genuine version  of you.

#5 You Should Get Sober for Medical Reasons

Drinking and drug use can cause numerous serious medical problems. In fact, the end result of untreated addiction is very often death.  Some drugs, like alcohol or opioids, can cause death very rapidly, even within minutes. Others, like marijuana and nicotine, only kill after years of use. In either case, you are risking your life.

Every drug impacts the body differently, and many cause even more effects when mixed with other drugs. These effects can impact every one of the body’s organs, and these impacts are often permanent.

There are few, if any, changes that you can make to your life that will have a greater impact on your medical health than getting sober. You will improve how your body feels and functions in the short term, and also greatly prolong your life expectancy.
