When I came to ALR, I was misguided and completely unable to stay sober on my own. Through Step Studies, Big Book Studies, and classes on sponsorship, I have applied a format for living which has kept me sober almost a year and a half. The staff at ALR has always been available when I needed them and have helped provide a safe environment where I could focus on my recovery. Lectures provided by Robbie Keeble and Jamie Martin have taught me how physiologically and psychologically my addiction has shaped my life. The solution is always right there for me to utilize and improve my situation. In summary, ALR has saved my life and I will always use what I’ve learned here.

ALR was exactly what I needed in my life, when I first went to rehab I was 18 and I went to a year long treatment program, it worked while I was there, I ended up relapsing because I wasn’t ready. Long story short my best friend went to ALR while I was at the year long, he would tell me all the time how much he loved it. So the seed was planted in my head about this place, and after living there I see why. ALR saved my life and many others I know. The staff cares about your life not your opinions, they know what’s best they don’t sugar coat anything nor let you get away with anything. If you want to do the bare minimum don’t go here. If you want to achieve & maintain sobriety as well as the blessing of a new way to live this is the place. I thank God everyday I called ALR, and did everything they asked of me to get there. I am a 22 year old heroin addict with a new way to live, I can’t promise what’s going to happen tomorrow but thanks to ALR I know for a fact that today i don’t have to get high.

Price : Affordable to everyone Program : AA 12 steps Length of program: 6 months minimum Community: 50 residents Staff: 6 managers Pros: They have over 15 years of experience in recovery. 6 months of clean sober time is almost guaranteed if you did what they tell you to do. Price is very affordable even if you hit rock bottom they can work out a payment plan with you. Understanding staff and management. Residents are 99% friendly and helpful. Transportation isn't a big deal if you don't have a car. You can start working after 6 weeks of clean time. Families are welcome to visit at any time. They have something called phase 4 where you can continue to stay under their supervision in a near by venue after you finish your 6 month. Cons: You will be living with recovering addicts so expectorant meet some dick heads. Passes to go visit your loved ones are limited to 48 hours max, however arrangements can be made if you're coming from out of state. I will definitely recommend it to my loved one. If you're serious about recovery, then this place is for you.

I arrived here in April 2015. At this point in my life I used drugs for 10+ years. My life was completely miserable and I hated the person I was. All I could think about at this point was ending my life. I did not know anything about ALR before coming there, so I had no clue what to expect. I was so hopeless that I was willing to give anything a shot. I listened to what they asked me to do everyday. At first it was a struggle but then It became normal to me. I got a sponsor like they suggested and participated in their group meetings. Life got tremendously better for me after just a couple months. I graduated out of their program and went into a house they own off of campus. I've been sober ever since. What I thought this place was going to do was just get me off of drugs. What I found out is that it did not only do that, but it gave me a new life completely. It taught me how to live. Live not only with the day to day changes, but to live with my past. I lost who I was and ALR helped me find that person. If you are miserable and lost I suggest to give this place a try. Give it everything you have and I am sure your life will change for the better.

This place definitely saved me in a few ways. I didn't have anything/anywhere to go when I got done with treatment, so I found this place. It taught ne basic life skills, as well ad a way to live in adherence to the 12 steps of recovery. From the guidelines set when I got there, I was kept accountable and sober for my tenure there. Ive now graduated into their offside housing and strive to continue my relationship with alr. Through sponsorship and service work I believe alr will always have a place in my life. Great staff, affordable, and it works.

ALR is a great sober living facility. It is a place that gave me a home when I had no where else to go and taught me how to live life without drugs. Me and my family will be forever greatful for this facility and expecially the staff.

ALR, in my opinion, is the best sober living facility in Birmingham. Its foundation is 12-step based and it is affordable enough that you could support yourself while you live here. I think this is one of the most important factors for a sober living facility because it teaches an Alcoholic/ Addict, like myself, how to live without having to depend on my family to pay my way like I've always done. ALR teaches its residents how to live according to the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. I have over a year sobriety and I have ALR to thank for teaching me the routine that I follow on a daily basis to live a sober life.
